1
The tune, Ian’s Rambles was composed by Dan Page for Ian McTaggart-Cowan. The music is printed in 'Fresh from Dan’s Hall' and is recorded by the Dancehall Players on their CD “Fresh from Dan’s Hall”.

‘Active Pass’ is a narrow passage of water connecting the Strait of Georgia to the more protected waters of the southern Gulf Islands which are located off Vancouver Island, BC. It is 'active' due to the number of vessels using the pass and very active with eddies and strong currents. The water swirls around and changes direction, much like the activity of the dancers.

Robin Lowry suggested the name for the dance.
