Michael Barraclough says: Ken Sheffield has converted a triple minor dance to a 4-couple set dance which bears little relationship to the original dance.
2
Michael Barraclough says: This dance appears, inaccurately described, in 7 editions of the 1st Volume of the "Playford" Dancing Master and 4 editions of the 1st Book of Walsh's Compleat Country Dancing Master. The version in the 2nd Volume of the "Playford" Dancing Master (called Bloomsbery Market, or, Queensborough) contains expanded instructions for the figures to be done to the B musics. This 'correction' makes much more sense, but is not carried through to the 17th & 18th editions of Volume 1 or to the 2nd, 3rd & 4th editions of Walsh's book (all published after the 3rd edition of Volume 2 of the Dancing Master). This lends credence to the arguments that just because something was published does not necessarily mean that it was ever danced, or that it was danced at the time it was published.
