It seems to me that The Russian Dance is a 6 strain sequence and the version given is suggested by Thomas (see Note 3) Wall's manuscript in the Ashover Collection and also by the instructions in Thompson's Compleat Collection Vol III. Another slightly different version is given in an unidentified collection, and yet another in the Preston Collection. Both the Thompson and unidentified publication use the same tune but the Wall manuscript seems to be unique and I have been unable to find it in any early printed form.

Play the tune AABBAB.

Michael Barraclough says: Ken Sheffield refers to Thomas Wall (see above) but the author of the manuscript is actually David Wall. The dance in David Wall's manuscript book is clearly copied from Thompson becuase it is identical (puctuation, symbols, abbreviation & spelling). That the tune is different is surprising because almost universally at this time, the name of the dance is taken from the name of the tune. Ken Sheffield has converted the original triple minor dance to a 3-couple set dance and has made significant changes to the figures.
