Charles says "Early in 1985 my wife had a minor operation on her foot, which put her out of dancing for a while, and I was determied to write something for her, so that she could resume dancing as soon as she came out of plaster: hence the title, The Plaster 'Cast'. The dance was to be dead slow and with the minimum of movement, but sufficiently interesting to be worthwhile."
